Your images stay on your device
Regionly runs entirely in your browser. Images you open, the regions you draw, notes you write, and files you export are processed and created locally on your machine. None of that content is uploaded to our servers — we couldn't look at your images if we wanted to. The one exception is the optional AI annotate feature, described below, which only ever runs when you explicitly click it.
AI annotate (optional)
If you click the Auto button and run AI annotate, a downscaled copy of the current image (and the hint you typed, if any) is sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to compute suggested regions. The image is used solely to produce that one set of suggestions: we do not store it, and it is not used to train models. The suggestions come back to your browser and everything after that is local again, like the rest of the editor. The feature asks for your consent the first time you use it, and never runs on its own.
What we do collect
We collect anonymous product-usage events through a first-party event beacon to understand how the tool is used: things like "an image was loaded", "a rectangle was drawn", "an export was downloaded", the page path, and the referring site's hostname. These events contain no account identifiers, no tracking cookies, no image content, no labels or notes, no file names, and no fingerprinting. We may use this aggregated, anonymous usage data to improve the product and for business purposes, including sharing aggregate statistics with partners.
Our hosting provider (Netlify) processes standard web-server request logs, including IP addresses, to deliver the site and defend it against abuse. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.
The free-use counter
Free exports are metered (the first export needs no account; a free account adds 5 more per month). To count them without identifying you, your browser stores a one-way hash derived from general browser traits in local storage, and an anonymous server-side counter tracks how many exports that hash has used in the current monthly bucket. The hash cannot be reversed into you or your device, it is not linked to your IP address (no IP is stored with it), and it carries no personal information — it exists only so the same browser isn't counted twice.
Accounts
Free accounts sign in with an email address or Google sign-in. Your email is used only for signing you in and tracking your free/premium status — not for marketing lists, and never linked to your images or annotations, which still never leave your browser.
Payments
Premium subscriptions ($5/month) are processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your payment details on its own systems — we never see or store card numbers. We only learn whether a subscription is active.
Cookies
Regionly sets no tracking cookies. Your theme preference, a "demo seen" flag, and the free-use counter hash described above are stored in your browser's local storage; the first two never leave your device.
